The government confirmed laws on functioning of courts, prosecution office, court registers, and free-of-charge legal aid. This is the first step towards the reform of the Slovenian judicial system, and the new legislation is introducing the recommendation of GRECO, the International Group of States Against Corruption.

Their objective is to assure a more transparent performance and higher ethical standards, and to introduce an important optimisation of courts network, Minister continued. In future the jurisdiction of District Courts will be increased, and the work will be transferred to courts with a smaller workload.

Within the specialised prosecution office a special department will be established for seizure of illegally acquired property. According to his words, the new legislation will permit to the Judicial Council to apply psychological tests in selection of new judicial candidates, emphasizing that the tests are not intended for testing mental health of individual candidates.
